Absolutely superb casebook, distinguishable from most by its extremely tight editing of the cases and its clear description of the development of the law.As to the editing of the cases, I have never seen a casebook that on the one hand cuts down the opinions to manageable size so well - sometimes condensing the opinions to a page or so - and yet maintains the clarity and force of the original. Some casebooks include a mass of irrelevant detail in their excerpts on the one hand, or edit out key features of the opinion on the other. As to the description of the law, highlights include an excellent description of probability and its use (had the participants in the trial in McDaniel v. Brown read that chapter, much wasteful litigation and appeal could have been avoided). The historical discussion is also excellent. In conclusion, this collection does a terrific job of concisely and entertainingly highlighting the development of evidence law from the trial of Sir Raleigh Scott to modern developments in Bayes theorem.
